clemence poesy

she is immediately what comes to mind when i think of french girls. she never seems to take fashion too seriously. like she has better things on her mind. that's not to say that she doesn't dress the part. she just doesn't spend her time thinking about it or getting every hair perfectly in place or applying eyeliner with steely precision or even washing off her makeup from the night before.

clemence poesy possesses an aura of cool that seems inherent to all french women. utterly uncontrived. her face always seems to say it all. like she's knows something we don't. maybe it's being french.

pierre hardy

any way you look at it, pierre hardy is genius.

countdown to paris

i have traveling on the brain and for good reason. i'm heading to paris in exactly two weeks. i've been there a couple of times but there is always something new to discover and the thrill of returning never dies.

i remember reading gwyneth paltrow recount her first time in paris. how her father took her and at the end of their trip told her, “I wanted you to see Paris for the first time with a man who would always love you, no matter what.” this, of course, tugged at my daddy's-girl-heart-strings.

i have to say though...the first time i went, i went with one of my best girl friends and it was amazing. i've since gone back with my husband and it was, again, amazing.

for me, paris is really for everyone. mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, sisters, brothers, lovers, friends. it is one of those places you can visit again and again and it finds a different way into your heart.

this time around, i'm going with another one of my best girl friends. it will be her first visit there and i couldn't be more excited! our goal is to eat our way through the city.

are we there yet??? i'm hungry.

kate bosworth + burberry prorsum

burberry: past, present, future

in 1914, thomas burberry invented the trench coat as a uniform for world war i-era british officers. in 2001, christopher bailey reinvented burberry and took it beyond waterproof gabardine and tartan plaid. a decade later, the guy is still KILLING IT.

lusting now...

lusting now for later. say hello to fall...

airport all-star: kate bosworth

effortlessly cool without forsaking comfort, kate bosworth clearly knows the rules of dressing not only at the airport but in life. note some key elements...hands-free shoulder bag, comfortable layers, requisite sunglasses, great basics offset by some killer accessories and away we go.

three's company

it seems dimaculicious from flashion lights isn't the only one taking fashion cues from three's company.

christmas noelle snow (or chrissy to less rabid fans) rocked the whole running shorts-knee highs-wedge sandals combo in that very socal cool 70s rollergirl way. she also got crazy inventive with her interpretation of the pony tail. i'll stick to her fashion.

here's the short list...

1 = shakuhachi
2 = rag&bone
3 = a.l.c.
4 = madewell
5 = rory beca

flip flop sabbatical

every spring brings three certainties:
1 - stella mccartney comes out with the perfect flat sandal.
2 - i lust-slash-pine over said sandals but ultimately decide against purchasing them. opting instead for something taller with a walkability score of zero.
3 - another desperate purchase of havaianas is made on the first nice day of the year because i can no longer walk in my non-stella mccartney non-flat sandals.

not again. not this year. i am on a flip flop sabbatical. in its place will be a sandal in every color for every occasion to go with every outfit. all i am missing now is the perfect black sandal. more on that later.

stay tuned.

Model Parade

what happened to the days when models actually graced the covers of american magazines? instead of anja, freja and daria...there's katie holmes, kristen stewart and nicole kidman. i think the last time vogue actually had a model on their cover was in 2009. i'm holding my breath for their return. until then...a roll call of my favorite cover girls.
