yay or nay: r13 sweat jeans

it sounds too good to be true.  the all-around comfort of sweat pants and the all-purpose jean all in one.

thanks to the help of r13, i may have perfected schleppy chic and found my weekend uniform of choice.  a skinny jean with just the right amount of slouch + drop in the crotch (yes, that is a plus in my book).  and the elastic waistband is always a welcome addition to sunday brunch.

given that i carry my food baby around with me wherever i go, i may never take these off.

babies + fashion

it's a conspiracy.  clearly this is a trend that seems doesn't seem to be going away any time soon.

for one, i can't pick up an international edition of vogue (french, russian, japanese, what-have-you) these days without finding a supplement devoted entirely to children.

geraldine saglio-styled editorials and stella mccartney kids lines aside, it's starting to feel like a hard-sell.  this whole baby thing.  crewcuts hasn't helped matters either.

and let's not discuss alexander wang's itty bitty niece.

i can't even go there.

bestill my heart

the first time i saw this crewcuts picture, my heart melted. can't decide if it's the maternal instinct kicking in or the desire to grow my hair down to the middle of my back.

both require a nine-month commitment.  ask me again tomorrow.

the love affair continues...

quite possibly the only thing better than red and nude is the addition of black into the mix.

honorable mention goes to dion lee, whose entire collection seemed to revolve around this killer color combo.

baja fresh

alternatively, this post could be called: "why i love mexican food."

bold colors.  great textures. simple, clean, fresh.

fashion...food...the reasons for the baja lovin' are the same. it's a mood, a vibe. nights that start early and end late.  dining al fresco with friends over salted margaritas and sunsets. the atmosphere laid back, the attitude carefree.

under these layers of black, there may just be a socal girl at heart.

rule of 3

i'm always reading about stylish people who, when they find a piece they love, buy multiples of it. i can barely afford to buy one of something let alone SEVERAL same of somethings...but, for the sake of this exercise, i thought about what pieces i would love to see in my closet once, twice, three times...maybe.  if only.

black + white

chic. timeless. modern. black and white never gets old.

count on kelly wearstler to always make it look interesting. this image is from her blog, my vibe my life, which provides a glimpse into her creative process. i find myself fixated on each of her posts. like her books, i reference them again and again, so rich in inspiration and visual cues.

when i saw this, i had to wonder if she dressed with the background in mind. the horizontal lines of the wood. the curved white pipes. the perforated holes in her gunmetal and silver rings. the leopard spots on her bracelet. the natural tones of the wood picked up in her python shoes. the exotic skins from her striped carryall.

it's a bold mix of textures and patterns unified by a simple color palette. all by design, intentional and with purpose.

i've always defaulted to a limited palette of black, gray and white. mostly because i'm a lazy dresser but i've been inspired to take it up a notch.

sprung

for me, nothing signals the start of spring like the cherry blossom festival in DC. walking along the tidal basin, covered in a canopy of blooms the faintest hint of pink, i am left feeling completely in awe of nature. overwhelmed by its beauty. looking up, the sun peeks through the lace of delicate buds, i catch its warmth and welcome its arrival.
